Council Operations and Membership Consultant

 

The Council Operations & Membership Consultant is a strategic specialist who has deep expertise and content knowledge in volunteer and member development and program delivery. The Council Operations & Membership Consultant relies on analytics to drive national membership strategies and develops and/or maintains a framework to measure excellence and health in membership. She/he is knowledgeable about the functional needs as it relates to membership and has a keen understanding of the spectrum of council capabilities.

As the expert in Girl Scout operational practices for volunteers and program delivery, the Council Operations & Membership Consultant is a GSUSA internal resource for execution approaches and strategize with council COOs (or equivalents) for implementation planning.

 

What does the Customer Office deliver at GSUSA?

As the mission delivery arm of GSUSA and the Movement, the Customer Office continues to evolve how we define the customer experience, enrich our programming for today’s girl, enhance our volunteer support, and package our offerings for our 112 local councils.

 

 

You Will

  • As a Subject Matter Expert, will serve as the resident expert on the typical Girl Scout COO functions of membership development, volunteer engagement & support and program delivery. As such, is knowledgeable about council and industry best practices.  Drives national membership strategies and develops and/or maintains a framework to analyze, discern insight, and measure excellence and health in membership.  Summarizes internal and industry trends, including demographic information, and makes recommendations for national strategies to GSUSA’s Senior Leadership Team.
  • As a Consultant, work closely with other functional areas experts (finance, governance, etc.) and with the leaders of Volunteer Experience and Girl Experience Departments to develop high-level and comprehensive membership and mission delivery strategies and resources for councils. Curate and develop resources, frameworks and tools such as case studies, templates and guides to support councils. Identifies effective practices and innovations in councils and the volunteer sector. Develops scaling strategies to integrate them where needed throughout the country. Collaborates with council connect partners to ensure that membership indicators for the council health dashboard are developed and periodically reviewed against network-wide and volunteer sector standards.
  • Ensure GSUSA functional teams (Marketing, IT, etc.) are aware of council planning realities related to COOs and are planning national strategies in alignment to those realities to every degree possible. Advises or provides partnership to GSUSA senior management when developing council implementation strategies in operational arenas.
  • Effectively brings SME knowledge and strategic expertise to GSUSA teams and council constituents in a clear manner that encourages engagement and invites collaboration.

You Need

  • Bachelors required or 5+ years of relevant council  experience
  • Strong project management skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in best-in-class membership development techniques
  • Proven coaching, facilitating and training expertise
  • Proven leadership skills in building community engagement with diverse stakeholders
  • Outstanding data analysis skills and proven record of using data to inform decision making
  • Strategic communication skills to help others see the bigger picture, connecting the appropriate “dots”
  • Experience developing resources and tools in area of expertise
  • Willingness to travel 25-33%, may be up to 50% if position dictates
  • Ability to model GSUSA values at all times

 

Additional Key Qualities:

  • Ability to bridge between the COOs at councils and the leadership at GSUSA. Positions one’s self as an advocate for COOs within GSUSA and works to ensure national strategies align with council planning realities. Convenes targeted council learning and working sessions, opportunities for councils to share effective practices and industry strategies.
  • An effective influencer in sharing council perspective, needs, and possibility thinking with other GSUSA senior management on initiative implementations.
  • Achievement-oriented, the Council Operations & Membership Consultant takes initiative, follows through on commitments, and focuses on results and how they are achieved.
