  • About Us

    We are hiring for a Senior Designer to work in our Licensing and Merchandising department. This position will report to the Vice President, Sales & Licensing and is primarily responsible for developing artwork for products, packaging and product marketing that successfully supports the organization achieving its revenue objectives. 



    This Designer will work with many internal communities to understand Girl Scouts’ mission, brand direction and strategic priorities—including elements like content, themes, aspirations, brand messages and target audiences of the organization.  She/he will use that understanding to develop product-related artwork for the wider commercial marketplace. This position will also have a dotted reporting line to the Brand Creative Lead.

    You Are

    • A curious team player willing to working with various internal stakeholders to successfully design product-related artwork aligned with the Girl Scout mission and brand direction.
    • Experienced in designing for multiple product categories and packaging.
    • Experienced in designing artwork for brick and mortar and eCommerce products.
    • An an accomplished apparel, textile and packaging desginer or some combination of these skills. This is not a digital/graphic design role.

    You Will

    • Conceptualize, design and produce original artwork informed by the organization’s mission, brand direction/platform for use in an award-winning licensing program and in-house merchandising group.
    • Create, design and produce original logo treatments for new sub-brands, packaging templates and target demographics.
    • Collaborate with other GSUSA content creators to assess existing art assets for inclusion in the licensing and in-house merchandise programs
    • Stay up-to-date on trends and product innovations.
    • Work with National Archives staff to mine historic art and design to repurpose as licensing program and merchandise assets and as inspiration for creating new, original art assets.
    • Work with Office of the General Counsel to vet repurposed historic and contemporary art assets.
    • Incorporate vetted new art assets into licensing style guide.
    • Develop concept sketches/renderings of new products, packaging, visual merchandising displays, etc., for use in pitch meetings.
    • Participate in creative meetings with licensees and vendors to provide an overview of style guide and assets as well as art direction when necessary.
    • Participate in licensing and merchandise approvals function by providing design feedback on art submissions, informed by knowledge and experience of consumer trends, retail industry practices, retail buyer decision-making.

    You Need


    • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
    • Strong illustration and graphic design skills in a variety of media and styles. Expertise in design and business software applications:  Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft products. 
    • 5 – 7 years of experience creating original artwork for use by manufacturers of toys, children’s apparel, adult apparel, home décor, and other product categories
    • 5 – 7 years of product development experience
    • 5 – 7 years of experience designing packaging for consumer packaged goods companies and or toy companies.
    • Knowledge of retail industry and merchandising practices a plus.
    • Willingness and curiosity to learn about Girl Scouts’ mission and history.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team, to work with non-artists, and to advocate for and explain aesthetic viewpoint to non-artists.
    • Strong relationship building skills with demonstrated collaboration, organizational agility and ability to manage through relationships and influence; ability to assemble cross-functional and “virtual” teams
    • Understanding of basic copyright and trademark protection and vetting best practices
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, to meet deadlines and to adjust to shifting priorities
    • Comfort taking art direction, giving feedback, and navigating multiple points of view
