    The Girl Scout Merchandising team is looking to add a Senior Buyer to the team. The Buyer must have the ability to research and introduce new product categories into the assortment. The incumbent is responsible for the development, purchase, quality control and timely delivery of both Girl Scout branded products and name brand products that are sold via wholesale and retail channels. The Buyer locates potential vendors, obtains and negotiates competitive bids to maximize income, and works with the Merchandise Manager in the final selection process. This position will drive innovation while focusing on technology and lifestyle trends for girls and adults.

    • Analytical with strong skills to plan and project the business, track sales, and negotiate on the downside.
    • A clear communicator who can work cross-functionally across different areas within the organization including council partners.
    • Well versed in leading merchandising concepts, practices and procedures in an Omni channel environment – retail, e-commerce and wholesale.

    You Will

    • Analyze market trends in the girls, teens, and ladies markets.
    • Shop the New York showrooms, trade shows, and events to capture new and emerging themes. Synthesize this information into a saleable line of products in both new and existing categories.
    • Execute all aspects of the product development cycle from inception to delivery and beyond. Responsible for product approvals, packaging development and approval, photo and production samples and approval, delivery, marketing and copy proofing, and sales analysis.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to coordinate and communicate product information with both internal and external parties.
    • Contribute and provide input into the competitiveness of GSUSA products by comparing prices with market prices and conducting market surveys so that the impact is favorable to Girl Scouts.
    • Manage vendor selection and establish relationships with vendors that delivery high-quality, profitable merchandise that meet all legal and ethical standards as required by law and GSUSA.
    • Partner with Inventory Management on vendor communication, receipt flow, and system management, item turnover and order placement.

    You Need

    • 7+ years’ experience in retail, buying, catalog, ecommerce, and supplier relationships desired.
    • Demonstrated experience in new product development from inception to completion across multiple product categories.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising or related field or equivalent related experience.
    • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated negotiation and analytical skills.
    • Willingness and curiosity to learn about Girl Scouts’ mission and history.
    • Experience in prioritizing work, managing deadlines and adjusting to the needs of the business and shifting priorities in a high pressure environment.
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team as well as cross-functionally with other departments.
    • Solid computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint. Ability to learn and master internal systems.
    • Occasional travel (15%) - required to visit council stores, trade shows, off-site meetings and conventions.
