The Cultural Assets Department preserves, studies, and shares Girl Scout history through storytelling, inspiring people to honor the past and serve the future. The department oversees the GSUSA (Girl Scouts of the United States of America) archival collection, comprised of architectural elements, fine and decorative arts, photographs, international gifts, furnishings, textiles, jewelry, memorabilia, farm and camp equipment, corporate records, as well as personal writings of our founder Juliette Gordon Low. It spans 1300 linear feet of records, includes 65,000 photos, 15,000+ publications, 2000+ sets of uniforms, and 1000+ boxes of archival materials including original National Board minutes from 1915 and the original patent application for our Trefoil. The collection is housed at an offsite storage facility in Connecticut, at the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, Edith Macy Conference Center, and a small working repository at 420 Fifth Avenue, New York.
The Cultural Assets department also oversees the operation, maintenance, and interpretation of the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Museum in Savannah, Georgia. In addition, the Cultural Assets department supports collection preservation and conservation work at the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff, NY, to fully leverage Girl Scout history to grow the Girl Scout Movement.
POSITION SUMMARY
Do you want to have fun while making a difference? The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Museum is seeking to hire a full-time (hourly) Museum Lead Guide to work as a lead tour guide, troop activities leader, and visitor assistant. By sharing the fascinating story of Juliette Low and the Movement she founded at the height of the Progressive Era, the dedicated staff of the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace support the GSUSA mission to “build girls of courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.”
Primary duties of the position:
As a full-time Museum Lead Guide at the Birthplace, you will:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION |
High School Diploma or equivalent experience Minimum of three (3) years’ experience or training or study in public history, education, youth leadership, Girl Scouts, customer service, or a combination of these. |
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES |
Must have a background or demonstrated interest in public history or education, in working with the public and youth audiences, and in supporting the Girl Scout Movement.
Have a demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service.
With strong communication, interpersonal, and storytelling skills, you are excited about making history fun in an interactive museum environment.
Reliable and personable, you are a team player with a good work ethic and a desire to learn new skills on the job.
Must feel comfortable taking a leadership role among your tour and program guide colleagues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job requires the ability to present to groups for one-hour tours while moving through a historic house, assist visitors in a busy museum environment, and/or manage classroom activities for youth audiences multiple times during a work shift. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional museum environment.
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position with benefits. Days and hours of work are Sunday through Thursday with occasional adjustments based on tour and program reservations. Some holiday work is required.
Salary: $15.00 hourly
